Who doesn’t love puppies? Wierdos, that’s who.
Our interest in puppies is more serious than that however.
There is absolutely no doubt that the vast majority of dangerous or destructive behaviour in adult dogs comes from trauma as puppies or poor socialisation prior to about 4 to 5 months. Up to 8 weeks the pup’s mum and breeder need to get it all right. From 8 to about 18 weeks there is a window in which to cram a lot of training and socialisation. That’s your biggest job as a pet owner. After 18 weeks, that window starts to close and learning gets more difficult.
If we can help you get the early weeks and months right, then you are much less likely to need help in the next 10 years. We even start before you get your pup.
1:1 Puppy Training
Rather than a traditional group training class, we train puppies and owners on a 1:1 basis. (you us and the pup) . This may not be for you, you may prefer a group environment, that’s just fine, it’s personal choice. Below we have detailed the pros and cons of classes against 1:1 sessions. This should help you make your decision.
1:1 Training
Pros
- Training at times to suit you, 7 days a week.
- Flexibility to amend booked sessions
- Personal 1 to 1 trainer focus
- Sessions can be tailored to your pup
- Whole family can potentially be involved
- Go at your pace, not the pace of the fastest / slowest in the class
- You avoid the earth shattering embarrassment of your pup pooing in front of the whole class. (you shouldn’t be but you will be)
- Do it in your PJs. What do we care?
Cons
- More expensive than group training
- No wine in the pub beer garden after class
Group Training
Pros
- Meet and get to know others with similar aged pups
- Learn from others’ successes and failures
- It really can be fun!
Cons
- Drive across town at rush hour for 6pm classes, cos that’s the only time everyone can do.
- We are experienced at managing group dynamics, but that said there is always some gobshite in the group who you will hate. We hate them too but we smile patiently.
